The very first skill I learned that would serve me in business over and over, for over 20 years, was website design.

In 1999, while I was in college for Chemical Engineering Technology, my friend and lab partner passed me a sheet of paper that had HTML code on it and told me "you can make a web page with this". She said "go to Yahoo Geocities, make a free account and type this in".

This is a photo of that exact sheet from 23 years ago:

I immediately took to the school computers and started typing out my first page, character by character, line by line!

It just fascinated me!

You mean to tell me I can put my words out to the WORLD, for anyone, anywhere to read? Count me in.

That was my start to learning the website design skills that I STILL use today.

Of course we no longer have to painstakingly design sites line by line in code like I did back in those days. These days there is WordPress... a tool that creates the code for you.

I started using WordPress around 2005. I was thrilled to find a tool that made website creation easier and consistent. By that time I had dropped my career path to be an online business owner.

I have never stopped thanking my friend for sharing that code with me! She set me on the path to learn a skill that has paid me back over and over and over again.

I recommend you learn websites if you want to run your own business. My new class will start out with video tutorials and five weeks of live coaching classes but this will be a program I keep adding new resources to.
